  5. Norton Commander for Windows 95 has been upgraded to both enhance 
  6. performance and resolve some issues. To provide an easy way for you to upgrade,
  7. Symantec is distributing NC101 PATCH. This program upgrades your already 
  8. installed Norton Commander version 1.0 to version 1.0.1 automatically.

  12. NC101PCH.EXE is a self-extracting archive that contains NCPATCH, the
  13. upgrade patch program, its support file, and this READNOW.TXT file.
  14.  
  15.   To extract the upgrade files from the compressed archive:
  16.  
  17.      1. Copy NC101PCH.EXE into your Norton Commander folder. 
  18.  
  19.         For example, to the C:\Program Files\Norton Commander folder.
  20.  
  21.      2. Double click NC101PCH in a "My Computer" window or the
  22.         Windows Explorer. This can also be run from DOS.
  23.  
  24.         The patch files are extracted from the archive automatically. 
  25.     You will find three new files in the Norton Commander folder :
  26.     NCPATCH.EXE
  27.     PATCH.RTP
  28.     READNOW.TXT(This file)
  29.  
  30. NCPATCH
  31. --------
  32. NCPATCH is the program that performs the actual upgrade.
  33.  
  34.   To upgrade your installed version of Norton Commander:
  35.  
  36.      *    Close down Norton Commander for Windows 95.
  37.  
  38.      *  Launch a DOS box and Run the NCPATCH.EXE.
  39.  
  40.         NCPATCH locates the files that require modifation and performs
  41.         the upgrade automatically using the PATCH.RTP file. The whole process 
  42.     takes a few minutes to run.
  43.  
  44.      *    After the upgrade is complete you can delete NC101PCH.EXE, NCPATCH.EXE,
  45.     PATCH.RTP and READNOW.TXT. These files are no longer needed.
  46.  
  47. NOTE: When you update Norton Commander using this patch program, the
  48. Help About box will indicate that the software is unregistered and
  49. for evaluation only. Ignore this text--it is an expected result of
  50. the patch process. Your software is still valid and registered.

  52. Troubleshooting
  53. ---------------
  54. If any critical Norton Commander files are either damaged or missing,
  55. the NCPATCH program will not work. In this case, you must uninstall
  56. Norton Commander, reinstall it from your original distribution disks,
  57. then run the NCPATCH program again.

  59. To uninstall Norton Commander, choose Control Panel, choose
  60. Add/Remove Programs, select Norton Commander on the Install/Uninstall
  61. tab, and click Add/Remove.
