Norton Commander for Windows 95 Maintenance Release 1.0.1
READNOW.TXT June 1996
*********************************************************************
Norton Commander for Windows 95 has been upgraded to both enhance
performance and resolve some issues. To provide an easy way for you to upgrade,
Symantec is distributing NC101 PATCH. This program upgrades your already
installed Norton Commander version 1.0 to version 1.0.1 automatically.
--------
NC101PCH.EXE is a self-extracting archive that contains NCPATCH, the
upgrade patch program, its support file, and this READNOW.TXT file.
To extract the upgrade files from the compressed archive:
1. Copy NC101PCH.EXE into your Norton Commander folder.
For example, to the C:\Program Files\Norton Commander folder.
2. Double click NC101PCH in a "My Computer" window or the
Windows Explorer. This can also be run from DOS.
The patch files are extracted from the archive automatically.
You will find three new files in the Norton Commander folder :
NCPATCH.EXE
PATCH.RTP
READNOW.TXT(This file)
NCPATCH
--------
NCPATCH is the program that performs the actual upgrade.
To upgrade your installed version of Norton Commander:
* Close down Norton Commander for Windows 95.
* Launch a DOS box and Run the NCPATCH.EXE.
NCPATCH locates the files that require modifation and performs
the upgrade automatically using the PATCH.RTP file. The whole process
takes a few minutes to run.
* After the upgrade is complete you can delete NC101PCH.EXE, NCPATCH.EXE,
PATCH.RTP and READNOW.TXT. These files are no longer needed.
NOTE: When you update Norton Commander using this patch program, the
Help About box will indicate that the software is unregistered and
for evaluation only. Ignore this text--it is an expected result of
the patch process. Your software is still valid and registered.
Troubleshooting
---------------
If any critical Norton Commander files are either damaged or missing,
the NCPATCH program will not work. In this case, you must uninstall
Norton Commander, reinstall it from your original distribution disks,
then run the NCPATCH program again.
To uninstall Norton Commander, choose Control Panel, choose
Add/Remove Programs, select Norton Commander on the Install/Uninstall
tab, and click Add/Remove.
